Posted on 25th August 2010 by admin with 0 Comment

The appearance of apartment depends on several components. To the most important ones the common design of placement and the condition of refurbishment can be ascribed. However that the apartment looks really beautiful, cozy and well-groomed, the order gets not less importance which should always be kept.

Therefore today creating the design of placement it is necessary to remember about the modern systems intended for keeping things. Awful closets and mezzanine disappeared from our design and comfortable cloakrooms replaced them.

Creating the cloakroom you decide several problems at the same time. You get rid from many various cupboards and chests and get the free space to make your apartment spacious and light. And the main thing – if you want your clothes and shoes to be always in order, not rumpled and looked well and each thing has its own place you should make the cloakroom in your dwelling.

Many people think that it is possible to create the cloakroom only in the separate placement, for example in some free room. However the advantage of cloakroom is that any free space in the apartment should be used for its creation – the niche, part of room, corridor or other room.

Any cloakroom is a wardrobe of any size which differs only with the fact that it is possible to enter it. Both doors and partitions of the cloakroom can be made of natural wood, veneered and laminated wood chipboard, glass, mirror. Design and color gamut of doors and partitions should correspond to the common style of placement. For example the wood will blend with classic interior, glass and mirror emphasize the modernity of high-tech style and wicker partition of bamboo will become the wonderful supplement of country or minimalism.

Every cloakroom is worked out by individual project and has its specialties and original design but they are alike by inner filling. Most cloakrooms consist of the following system: the shelves and stands with various sections, bars for hanging clothes, wire baskets and roll-out and open cases. The cloakroom is obligatory equipped with several mirrors. Some hostesses put the ironing board what is very comfortable by the way.

Owing to the modern tendentious the cloakroom stopped being the luxury and became very necessary and useful placement. Therefore think carefully – maybe it’s time to free your house from useless bulky furniture and create comfortable conditions for you and your clothes.

The modern Holland furniture design is a combination of variety of forms: it can be elegant or eclectic, systematic or afunctional, conceptional or accidental, anarchic or traditional and always be on the top of fashion.

Recently designer Jon Stam working in the Netherlands presented his new original project made in cooperation with designer Ivo de Kogel. Uncommon double-side cupboard with sixteen pull-out cases got the name “The Curiosity Cabinet”. The distinctive feature of this model is the unusual pattern made as QR-code – original matrix two-dimensional bar code which can be easily recognized with the scanning equipment. This way in decoration of side of the cupboard the photo and video information is encoded which can be on the screen of computer or mobile phone. The main idea of this conceptional project is to show the connection between the material and virtual world. According to the words of the authors this work became the part of big project devoted to the history of cupboard and 16th and 17th centuries.

If you like beautiful uncommon things and think that the interior of any room should be think out until the details. Then you should obligatory pay attention on the original project of Holland designers Lucas Maassen and Dries Verbruggen which got the name “Brainwave”. In the base of conception of this project the electroencephalogram of Lucas Maassen lies. Electroencephalogram is the graph of electric activity of the brain which was got by the instrumentality of electrode connected to the head of the designer. This procedure allowed him to get control at his project because the process of opening and closing eyes is reflected on the graph of electroencephalogram. The base of the model is made of wood; the soft part is filled with foam rubber and upholstered with felt. Uncommon form, laconic design and untraditional upholstery make the bed “Brainwave” to be wonderful, unconventional example of futuristic projecting.

Eco style

In the end of 20th century the people became more sensitive to the feeling of nature. Being tired of fighting with the problems of ecology some progressive persons decided to create their own “ecologically clean” world in the limits of their house and free it from all physicochemical garbage.

The eco style in interior began to be discussed when the time for whole nature to be written into the Red book came. The design created not by the person but by the nature itself – this is what the eco style appreciates. Natural materials, warm and comfort palette of colors of ground, sand and bark, simply cozy furniture of modest wood with expressive game of lines on the saw cut of the board, rather coarse linen textile with rough thread webbed in the hopsack – this is what the refined simplicity of eco style consists of.

People who live in such interior become kinder and calmer – they begin to notice the beauty of the simplest things because they are close the person because of their nature, non-aggressive and romantic.

The houses built according to the principles of eco style are spacious and light. This is little furniture here, things and utensils hide in the niches and unsophisticated cupboards. This style leaves the owner a lot of free space for creation and possibility to satisfy the house with various things. Furniture and home accessories in eco style can be met mainly in the most expensive shops of the production of the famous designer firms.

Today’s furniture exhibitions often demonstrate the eco style in interiors like the style of life. Clothes for furniture and windows prevails white and beige, canvas-grey. The bouquets and fruit trees blossom on them. Refined decoration of textile blends wonderfully with the ascetic forms of furniture made of very light or very dark wood. Even sinks and baths now are made of wood; they are supplemented with the wicker cupboards. Dining tables are decorated with the dishes of simple forms made of glass or loam, wicker vases or wood accessories.

The famous words of Coco Channel that the fashion goes away but the style is forages suggest themselves. Moreover, if this style is dictated with nature.

Dining set

Posted on 12th August 2010 by admin with 0 Comment

The dining set is not limited with chairs and table: in addition to them it is possible to purchase furniture for keeping dishes and accessories.
There is not common standard for dining set. The producer only offers you the elements which go with each other with the same decorative elements and common color gamut. Furniture in classic dining set is usually made of one material. The modern decisions allow liberties: contrast shades, combinations of different decorations.
There is no fixed completeness of dining set. For example, to one table both chairs with elbow-rests and without them can be bought. The set of elements of furniture for dining room is determined with the area of dining zone.
The table for the set is chosen first of all according to its appearance because it should look gala. Think beforehand what form of the table and the amount of sitting places you would like. If your family is not big but you often have guests the variant of transforming table will be the most suitable for you.
The amount of chairs depends on the physical size of table. You should take care about some additional sitting places of the same dining set. The choice of necessary model of sitting is the real science.
Buffet has the upper “additional storey” and showcase has the transparent leaves. Both buffet and showcase are intended for keeping plates, cut-glass ware and tea-sets. The dining furniture should have solidly closed leaves to prevent dishes from dust. But to show the beautiful services and souvenirs to the guests the doors of showcases (and sometimes buffets) are made with glass panels.
The modern dining sets do not include mirrors in any element. But it’s quite another pair of shoes when we talk about classic dining sets. Non traditional dining set can do without huge rectangular mirror which is placed horizontally along the buffet.
In spite of being quite necessary element the serving table is rarely offered in the standard set. The modern serving table is usually the folding model or attached one.

Hammocks and Hanging Chairs

Posted on 27th July 2010 by admin with 1 Comments

GROWING up in Colombia, Jaime Salm loved to swing from the trees. “We’d go to our friend’s farm on weekends — he had a huge hammock that five of us would pile into — and others would try to push it hard enough that it would loop over the branch,” said Mr. Salm, 32, an owner and the creative director of Mio, a Philadelphia design firm specializing in sustainable furnishings.

When Mr. Salm left home to study at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, his mother gave him a fishnet-style hammock to take with him. “It packed super-light,” he said. “But because it was made of string, it wasn’t very comfortable.”

Eventually, his brother Isaac, who owns Mio with him, brought a more comfortable, cotton hammock from Colombia. Mr. Salm can be spotted using it in Rittenhouse Square and Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. On occasion, he takes it to New York City, where he hangs it in Central Park.

The idea of harnessing available free energy — in this case, wind or the power of one’s leg — is very much in keeping with Mr. Salm’s philosophy of design and life. He doesn’t own a car, choosing to ride his bike around Philadelphia. Last year, he made sure to include a hammock in a capsule collection he designed for Target. And the pieces he creates for his company are often made of materials that are recycled or recyclable — or both — with an eye to environmental and social responsibility.

On a recent trip to Manhattan, Mr. Salm went shopping for hanging seating, both horizontal and vertical. While he prefers hammocks, he acknowledged the appeal of the hanging chair.

“In a chair, you’re expected to sit a certain way, to have a certain posture,” he said. “But in a hanging chair, you can sit whichever way you want. It’s more playful.”

At the M2L showroom on Madison Avenue, he took a swing in Eero Aarnio’s classic Bubble Chair. “I can see why it’s stuck around for so long,” he said. “It’s a clean-looking, simple, durable design. It gives the illusion of floating in a space, and it’s very comfortable.”

Downtown, at Droog, Mr. Salm checked out Marcel Wanders’s Swing With the Plants, a plastic chair with a hollow seat that can be filled with soil and seeds with the goal of eventually sprouting plant life, which he thought would be “good for people who are more romantic about the idea of swinging.”

But at the Anthropologie store in Chelsea Market, he found what he prefers — traditional hammocks — in two colorful options.

“You get a different perspective of the world lying in a hammock,” he said. “It’s a piece of furniture that makes you change the way you look at your surroundings. How many other pieces of furniture do you know that do that?”
